Caring for Suede and Nubuck
Brushing, protecting and rescuing napped leathers from water marks.
Suede and nubuck are the same hide as smooth leather, just sanded to raise a nap. That nap is what traps dirt and what water flattens.
Brush with a brass or crepe brush in one direction after every few wears. Treat stains with a suede eraser before reaching for any liquid. A protective spray applied to clean, dry nap is the single most effective thing you can do.
Water spotting is usually recoverable: dampen the entire panel evenly, blot, stuff with paper, dry away from heat, then re-brush the nap. Oil stains are not a DIY job — bring them in before you try a home remedy that sets the stain permanently.
